I don’t know about you, but I always love a good dad joke or hearing my dad tell me funny stories, even as an adult. While I may have been a mama’s girl growing up, I definitely take after my dad in so many ways. My love of books is rooted in how my dad would take me and my sister to the library A LOT when we were kids. That library may as well have been our second home.
So, I guess it is safe to say that my love of books is my connection to my dad. So, when I had the chance to read and review “I Love You, Dad,” I ended up learning more than I expected. For one, a book that intertwines a devotional, prayer, and a dad joke makes it a light-hearted yet meaningful read.
In each devotional, the story is a heartfelt reflection of the author looking back on their experience with their father, providing a deep insight into the relationship dynamics and the impact it had on the author’s life. This brings a compassionate approach for the reader, allowing them to relate to the emotions and experiences shared. Through each personal reflection mentioned in the devotionals, Scripture is connected to a lesson learned in each moment, creating a powerful intertwining of personal growth and spiritual guidance that resonates with the reader long after reading. This book offers a source of inspiration and contemplation for anyone, especially dads, seeking to explore the profound connection between personal reflection and spiritual wisdom.
As one reads through each page, there is a gentle tug in the heart of God speaking to the person reading. In a fast paced society today, it is easy to succumb to expectations of what a dad is to be. However, something as heartfelt portrayed in this book allows for the reader to connect the personal reflection to Scripture because we must seek truth within Scripture. I love how each verse mentioned is a direct connection to some form of personal growth in the spiritual journey. Part of the title on the front cover, “Words to Honor and Humor You,” (Daniel, Daniel, & McIntosh, 2024) caught my attention as I looked at the book. Heartfelt humor intertwined with wisdom is the epitome of a dad.
